Fremont County, Iowa

Farm Programs & Local Resources

Last Updated: March 2026 | Always verify with your local USDA office. Report an error

Located along the Missouri River, the county features extensive bottomlands and terraces with extremely fertile alluvial soils. The Nishnabotna River creates additional valley systems, while loess bluffs rise above the floodplains.

The Missouri River bottomland supports some of Iowa's highest-yielding corn and soybean ground, though flooding occasionally impacts production. Cattle operations utilize the rougher terrain and provide flexibility during flood years when crop production may be limited.
