Texas County encompasses rolling Ozark terrain drained by the Big Piney River and numerous spring-fed creeks that flow northward toward the Gasconade River. The landscape features a mix of prairie openings, oak-hickory forests, and fertile creek bottoms.

Texas County agriculture combines beef cattle operations on native grass pastures with row crop production of corn and soybeans on better soils in valleys and prairie areas. The county supports some of the largest cattle operations in south-central Missouri along with hay production for local feeding.
